Chadwick was prominent in popularising the second phase of stereo photography that started around 1890. His Stereo camera was well designed and came complete with a single lens for mono use, the lens panel could be reversed with the lenses in place for storage. An accompanying viewer was also produced.

The camera was probably made by Billcliff although the brass work dose not have the worm-mark finish usually found on his cameras. The rising front, and cross front on the mono lens board, are held in place by flat springs.

The frame holding the ground glass swings up over the top of the camera in the normal way but is painted black rather than being polished. A similar camera in the Science Museum collection also has a black-painted frame. The dark slides recommended were single slides of American manufacture, the draw slide was made of ebonite or something similar, a door at the back of the slide opened to load the plate, similar to wet-plate slides.
