The Trellis is a very strongly made square-pattern 'Hand and Stand' camera. Advertisements claim it was developed for explorers and travellers. It was made of thick section mahogany and would have stood up to hard professional use. A long bellows extension enabled the camera to be used with combinable or long focus lenses, for wide-angle work a drop-bed, wide-angle rack and hinged top flap were provided.

N&G had recently (1906) entered the field of light-weight hand cameras with the Sibyl. In contrast to the Sibyl which proved very popular and developed into a family of cameras, the Trellis was only made in the one design with probably no more than 100 being made. Around 1930 the camera was re-introduced, this may have amounted to selling off old stock rather than the manufacture of new cameras. A focal-plane version was introduced in c. 1913. Only the quarter-plate size was advertised but larger models are known to exist.

When introduced the price was about £3 more than the top of the range Una from Sinclair, this was soon reduced to a comparable figure. The price in 1912 without lens or shutter was £12.10.0, with an f6.3 Double Protar the price was £22.0.0.

The first descriptions are of a slightly different camera having, as standard, a focal-plane shutter, an unusual reflecting finder fitted to the body and different front standard. This may have been a special order or prototype from which the Trellis developed.
