The camera was patented in 1894 by A.J. Jones and S.J. Levi. It is unusual in that the spare slides are held in a compartment in the top of the camera. A spring back is fitted which is also unusual on British cameras. Rising front was fitted at additional cost.

The patent describes the general form and parts of the camera including the pull-out front which is found on other Levi cameras. The idea of storing dark slides within the camera was perhaps influenced by the prominence of magazine cameras at the time; the photographer had only a camera to carry rather than a camera and dark slides in an outer case or bag. The idea was not popular and only a few of these cameras were sold.
