The camera was patented in 1894 by A.J. Jones and S.J. Levi. It is unusual in that the spare slides are held in a compartment in the top of the camera. A spring back is fitted which is also unusual on British cameras.

The patent describes the general form and parts of the camera including the pull-out front which is found on other Levi cameras. The idea of storing dark slides within the camera was perhaps influenced by the prominence of magazine cameras at the time; the photographer had only a camera to carry rather than a camera and dark slides in an outer case or bag. The idea was not popular and only a few of these cameras were sold.
