The model D was first produced in quarter-plate and 5" x 4", other sizes were added later.

This example took 5" x 4" pictures on 5" wide film; rather than have a predominantly vertical aspect to the images, as in the Cartridge Kodak, Lizars have tried to give a landscape orientation. To do this they have stood the camera on end and hinged the folding bed across the width of the camera, which gives it a slightly odd look. Other models had the bed in the normal position. The model D was either leather covered or finished in polished wood. A light-tight flap could be lifted allowing the insertion of block-form double dark-slides. In 1907 the model D was replaced by the Dayspool series.
