Image of Microscope Camera

Shutter:
Leaf shutter, speed 1 - 1/250, B, T.

Construction:
Metal body, black paint.

Format:
24 mm x 36 mm exposures on 35 mm film.

Attributes:
Film advance by sprocket, auto-stop on film advance.

With:

  • Shutter and finder assembly.
  • Viewing screen that replaces the finder.
  • Plate camera attachment for 2 ½" x 3 ½" plates. Two dark slides.
  • Wooden box.

The 35 mm camera is based on the Ilford Advocate, it has been modified by the removal of the lens which is replaced by a dovetail ring to attach to the shutter/finder assembly, the shutter release has been reversed and now serves to release the film-advance movement. A draw-slide is fitted to the front of the camera making it light-tight, this is pulled sideways when attached to the shutter. The camera is engraved with the magnification - x0.3.

The shutter and finder assembly attach to the dovetail ring of the camera. It contains a beam splitter that directs light to a telescope eyepiece. The eyepiece can be replaced by a ground glass viewing screen. The connection is by a dovetail clamp. At the bottom of the assembly is a removable section that fits to the microscope tube. Removing this would allow the microscope eyepiece to be changed, the fixing between the removable section and the shutter/finder assembly is by a large dovetail ring and clamp, possibly this would fix to the microscope when the eyepiece and its tube were removed.

The plate camera can be attached to the shutter in place of the Advocate. A ground glass screen would have been present originally, it is marked with the magnification - x0.8. A strong negative lens is incorporated into the housing.
