Enlarging exposure meter.

This is a grease spot photometer, light from the enlarger is reflected by a mirror onto the back of a screen that contains the spot. A standard lamp illuminates the front of the screen. As the lamp is moved towards or away from the screen the front and back light are equalised and the spot will disappear. The exposure time can then be read from a scale between the lamphouse and the screen. The lamphouse carries a set of rotating apertures, which varies the light according to the paper speed.

Enlarging exposure meter using a grease spot. Scale: 1 - 240s. Paper grades: Extra Soft, Soft, Normal, Vigorous, Hard.

The meter is first calibrated for the type of enlarging lamp. To determine the exposure: 1) Set the paper speed (from a supplied list) against an index. 2) Bring the meter 'spot' to part of the image that is to show detail, rotate the main knob until the spot matches the background the exposure in seconds is then shown on the dial. The meter is well designed, the two moulded plastic sides have grooves in which the internal components sit, the sides are pulled together by a single rod.
