Image of Focal Plane Xit

Lens:
f6, 7.6" Dallmeyer Stigmatic Series II No. 4, iris diaphragm to f45. Serial no. 63815 (c. 1902).

Shutter:
Goerz Focal-plane, speeds 1/25 - 1/1200. Tension settings 1 - 10. Slit width settings 1 - 7. Separate focusing slit.

Construction:
Polished mahogany with aluminium fittings. Leather bellows.

Format:
6 ½" x 4 ¾" plates held in double dark-slides.

Focusing:
Focus to 4 yards. Three focusing positions for lens panel.

Movements:
Cross front, rising front.

With:
1 double dark-slide. Extension back for long focus use.

The Focal Plane version of the Xit offered higher shutter speeds than the other models, it was made in sizes of quarter-plate, 5" x 4" and half-plate with several lens options. The price is roughly the same as a Xit fitted with a Goerz Sector shutter. A later model Anschütz shutter was fitted from 1905.

With dark-slides the front focusing slot is used. The two rear slots are for changing boxes and other holders. The extension back allowed the Stigmat lens to be divided for long-focus work.
