The Sinclair Collapsible Lens Hood was made in a number of sizes and in two models:

Early model, introduced in 1909, where the lens panel of the hood was cut for a particular lens diameter. The hood was fixed by a screw.
1920 model, where the hood was adjustable for different diameter lenses by a screw-adjusted clamping action.

Where the hood had to be a greater distance from the lens, when used with a shutter of N&S pattern for instance, a cone or short tube was used. The cone pushed on to the lens. Hoods for telephoto work had an extra extension piece attached to the front.

These were introduced in 1910, in 1928 the original design was altered to become self-erecting and a spring clip to attach the hood to the lens was added.

Contax Lens Hood

Extensible lens hood for 5 cm lenses, the hood attaches to a bayonet on the camera body.

Presumably Zeiss wanted to provide a hood with a rectangular aperture, Contax lenses rotated as they were focused hence the hood fits over the lens and attaches to the camera. Changing aperture was not easy.

Lens Arc

. Metal tube which clips on to the lens, the top of the hood is deeper than the bottom. For a time this type of hood was sold by the Altrincham Rubber Co and was also sold under the name of G.E.W. It is stamped with the Registered Design no. 778562 (this dates to 1932). Box.

Retina Hood

. Kodak A.G., Stuttgart. Square plastic hood for the Retina Ib, IIc and IIc cameras. Additional attachment for wide-angle lenses. Yellow boxes.

Rubber Lens Hood

. Push-on rubber hood with deep corrugations. German, 32 mm diameter.

Elmar Lens Hood

. c. 1950. Cook & Perkins. Metal hood that clamps to an f3.5, 5 cm Elmar lens, the lens aperture can be adjusted by turning the front of the hood.

Johnson Peckham Hood

. Johnson & Sons Manufacturing Chemists Ltd, London. Metal hood in two parts one part holding a filter. Box.

The hood was developed and patented by Cyril Peckham. The unusual shape was intended to prevent reflection within the hood.
