Lens:

Shutter:
Pivoted two-blade return, speeds I, B, T.

Construction:
Cloth covered body.

Format:
6.5 x 9 cm plates in single metal slides.

Focusing:
Bellows to 2 yards. Focusing is by pulling forward an inner tray to which the front standard is attached.

Attributes:
Reflecting view-finder. When in use the base of the camera is a shallow box or tray. To fold the camera the front standard is disengaged and pushed against the rear standard, the tray then pivots and covers the lens and rear standard.

With:
1 single metal slide.

A-kla introduced a daylight loading system in 1910. A year later they brought out a camera using a changing box. In 1912 the Gleaner was introduced in three versions for use with conventional dark-slides: the example shown here; a similar model but with lever focusing and reversing finder; a conventional folding bed camera with aluminium body. A-kla probably ceased trading around 1915. The price was 12/6.
