This shutter replaced the two-blade Automat. It was also advertised as the New Automat. Some advertisements show a dial-set arrangement others rim-set. The speed range varies between examples.

Attributes:
Speeds 1/150 - 1, B, T. Everset type.

With:
f6, 5.75" Aldis Anastigmat No.2. Serial no. 100120.

Ilex shutters were the first to use a gear train to vary the exposure. The Universal has a slow top speed and is everset. The Acme with a higher top speed has a setting lever. Around 1921 the shutters were re-designed. The casing was streamlined with rim setting of the speeds in place of dial set.

Notes:
From a No. 1 Autographic Kodak Junior of c. 1914.

With:
4 ¼" meniscus lens.

The Ball Bearing was one of the most poplar Kodak shutters. It was made in two forms - No. 0 with three blades and speeds of 1/50, 1/25 and No.1 with five blades and speeds of 1/100, 1/50, 1/25. The No. 1 form had an exposure counter when introduced in 1909, later this was dropped. The No. 0 was introduced in 1912.
