In use the light value is found from a table based on month and time of day. This value is set against the subject type. An arrow will then point to a value, that value is moved to align with the plate in use. The shutter speed and aperture pairs can then be read. The instructions recommend that a strip of Solio paper is used as an actinometer to get the light value rather than use the table. John Albert Cheape also designed an actinometer around 1899.

Exposure Records

c. 1910

Wratten & Wainwright Ltd

Croydon

England

Exposure records for 12 plates. Includes filter factor table and developing formulae. Issued with Wratten & Wainwright Panchromatic Plates.

These are for the photographer to record exposure details, subject and any additional notes. Plate manufacturers would often include a card in the box of plates giving details of the plates and space for the exposure details to be recorded. Photographer's diaries also had several pages to record the details. Some cameras, typically magazine types, had ivorine plaques which could be written on. Wratten introduced these plates in 1906, in 1912 they became part of Kodak.
